The S. B. Arts & K.C.P Science College, the flagship of B.L.D.E.Association, took its humble birth in 1945. Six decades ago, a great visionary saw potential in barrenness and challenging adversity. The visionary was Shivayogi SanganaBasava Swamiji. His missionary Zeal and untiring efforts laid the foundation of Arts Section which is named after him. The Principal source of building fund for the science section came from the generous donor Late Shri Kanal Channagouda Patil.

During a span of 60 years the college has flourished fulfilling the aims and objectives of the people in this area. The buildings of our college stand on a wide expanse of 54 acres of land donated by the late Smt. Bangaramma Sajjan. The foundation stones of Biology department, Physics department, Chemistry department, and the Central library were laid by Bharata Ratna Nobel Laureate Sir C. V. Raman, late Prime Minister of India Shri Morarhi Desai, the Maharaja of Mysore, Shri Jayachamaraj Wadeyar and the late Shri Veerendra Patil late Chief Minister of our state respectively.

The college had the good fortune of possessing eminent educationalists as principals. This bright galaxy includes such illustrious names as Shri T. K. Patil, Shri B. S. Ganachari, Dr H. T. Sansanur and Shri I. R. Patil.

Eminent National and International personalities like General Kariyappa, Dr. V. K. Gokak, Dr. D. S. Kothari, Dr. Malhotra, Nani Palkiwala and Dr. D. C. Pawate visited our college and appreciatied the yeoman service rendered by the institute in this part of the state.

The college is permanently affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad and included under section 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act. At present the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education, Bangalore, has identified the college as the LEAD COLLEGE FOR TOM AND HRD PROGRAMMES of Bijapur district. The success and meritorious feat of the college is reflected in its B++ Grade by NAAC in the year 2004.

The college offers wide range of subjects in Arts / Science / Computer Science. The courses provide as many as 35 options and combinations to the students. The college is also running 06 Add-on-Courses. Further, from the academic year 2007-2008, it had the credit of running PG Courses in English and Computer Science which are affiliated to Karnatak Univeristy, Dharwad.

The college has highly qualified and experienced 61 permanent staff and 30 temporary staff with 14 Ph.Ds and 06 M.Phils. The faculty members have also completed 06 MRP under X Plan and have also submitted 17 number of MRP’s under XI Plan UGC. A few departments have also applied for seed money under XI Plan for Add-on-Courses.

The hallmarks of this temple of learning are spacious class rooms, two separate computer centers with internet facility, computerized main office, vast playground, updated library with 71,254 books, Language lab., and separate laboratories for all science subjects. The college has also made MOU with CLHRD Mangalore for running “Personality Development Programme”. In addition, the faculty members who are trained at Infosys are training students in Analytical and Communication Skills.

During the last 60 years, the college has flowered into a magnificent educational center fulfilling dreams, desires, ambitions and aspirations of the students of this educationally backward area.
